Perfect Fluffy Brown Rice

Fluffy, nutty, and perfectly cooked, this brown rice recipe is a game-changer for any meal. With a simple boil, simmer, and steam method, you’ll get light, separate grains every time—no mushiness! Whether paired with stir-fries, curries, or grain bowls, this versatile staple is easy to make and packed with nutrients. Plus, it stores beautifully for meal prep, making healthy eating effortless!

Ingredients

1 cup Brown Rice (short-grain or long-grain)

2-1/2 cups Water (or vegetable broth for extra flavor)

1/2 tsp Salt (optional)

1 tsp Olive Oil or Vegan Butter (optional, for added richness)

Instructions

Place the brown rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water for about 30 seconds. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 ½ cups of water (or broth) to a boil over high heat. Add the salt and oil/butter if using.

Stir in the rinsed rice, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and reduce the heat to low. Simmer gently for 35-40 minutes, without lifting the lid.

Once the water is fully absorbed, turn off the heat but keep the lid on. Let the rice steam for 10 minutes—this step is key for fluffiness!

Remove the lid and gently fluff the rice with a fork. Serve warm with your favorite dishes!

Chef’s Tips:

For even fluffier rice, spread it on a baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving to let excess moisture evaporate.

For extra flavor, replace water with vegetable broth or add a bay leaf while cooking.

To store: Let the rice cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Serving Suggestions: Pair with stir-fries, curries, grain bowls, or roasted veggies!
