Mama's Molasses

My Mama's Molasses is a simple, delicious substitute that’s easy to make when you're in a pinch. Crafted with rich, deep flavors, it adds a warm, sweet touch to any recipe, especially holiday cookies. It's the perfect quick-fix solution when you run out, ensuring your baked goods still taste amazing without a store-bought bottle.

Ingredients

2 cups Dark Brown Sugar

3/4 cups Water

1/4 tsp Cream of Tartar

2 tsp Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)

Instructions

In a saucepan, mix together the sugar, water, cream of tartar, and lemon juice, on medium heat.

After the sugar dissolves, turn down the heat and let the syrup simmer until it becomes a slightly thick syrup that drips off the spoon slowly. This will takes just about 8-10 minutes. It may seem a little bit runny but the syrup will thicken up as it cools.

Allow to cool and store in an airtight glass container.

Note: Store in an airtight container for up to 2-3 months at room temperature. If the syrup ever hardens just warm it back up until it liquifies.

I like to use this molasses for my holiday cookies, waffles, loaves or whatever requires this type of deep rich flavorful syrup.
