Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy in the center, these homemade airfryer garlic sourdough croutons are the perfect way to use up leftover sourdough bread while adding bold, savory flavor to your favorite soups and salads. Tossed with olive oil, fresh or granulated garlic, and a touch of sea salt, then toasted to golden perfection, each bite delivers that irresistible crunch with a punch of garlicky goodness. These croutons are not only a delicious topping but also a zero-waste kitchen win — turning your bread odds and ends into a crave-worthy addition to any meal.
Ingredients
2 cups Cubed Sourdough Bread (about 1/2-inch pieces)
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil or Melted Coconut Oil
1–2 Cloves Garlic, finely minced (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder for easier coating)
1/2 tsp Salt (or to taste)
1/4 tsp Black Pepper (optional)
1 tsp Italian Seasoning or Dried Parsley (optional)
(Optional) 2 Tablespoons Nutritional Yeast for a cheesy flavor boost
Instructions
Cut your leftover sourdough loaf into small, even cubes (about 1/2-inch). Place the cubes into a mixing bowl.
In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, minced garlic (or garlic powder), salt, pepper, and herbs (if using). Pour this mixture over the bread cubes and toss well until every piece is coated, but NOT soaked in oil.
Place the coated bread cubes into your air fryer basket in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 6–8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even crisping. Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes—every air fryer is a little different!
Let the croutons cool completely—they’ll crisp up even more as they cool. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
Flavor Variations
Spicy: Add 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes.
Lemon Herb: Add lemon zest and rosemary to the oil mix.
Cheesy: Sprinkle nutritional yeast right after they come out of the air fryer while still warm.
